After all the research, travel, and planning on go the Action Shoes ( Ed' De Bono!) and turn the New Directions story into a practical reality, a reality that does what I set out to do all those years ago. The call has come from Rafael Ahenu a wonderful campaigner for sanitation and water in Ghana, his finger pointing us towards the Borong Ahafo Region with a population of almost two million people, living in communities of all sizes.
New Directions Foundation are naturally the new kids on the block and must find friends to play with in such a large state. A start was made introducing ourselves to Wateraid's Technical Director with the plea for on the ground information, help and guidance, that essential knowledge necessary just to get to the planning stage of this venture! This comes from the Wateraid Country Office. Were we so cheeky as to suggest that EcoSan was the future for Global Sanitation? …. perhaps, and our community scheme did indeed interest them.
They are a wonderful organization and willing to lend their effort towards solving the alarming and obscene absent toilet issue in the Developing world. They seemed genuinely interested in the direct nutritional linkage with Food Security, and the low cost solutions which are now available.
